Twente is so special: you’d almost forget it is part of the Netherlands. This is a region full of variety, natural beauty and attractive towns and villages - you will be surprised again and again. By the different views in the romantic coulissen landscape (hedgerow landscape characterised by narrow tree-bordered fields) which merges into rolling plains. Or by the distinctive Twente villages that are surrounded by equally distinctive hamlets. And particularly by the style of the cities and their lively centres. Also, you’re close to Germany. Towns such as Bad Bentheim, Gildehaus, Gronau and Nordhorn are just a short drive across the border. The National Park De Sallandse Heuvelrug is situated on the border of Twente and Overijssel. This is a very diverse area of natural beauty: moors, hills, panoramas, deciduous and coniferous forests, etc. This is the perfect place to go hiking or cycling. Yet jogging and mountain-biking are also quite a challenge.
