Camping Julianahoeve

Environment

Anyone who visits Schouwen-Duiveland won’t fail to understand why this former island carries its title with pride. As the northernmost part of beautiful Zeeland, Schouwen-Duiveland has the prettiest spots and numerous areas of outstanding beauty.

Plenty of Shopping Opportunities

Shopping on Schouwen-Duiveland is fun.

The old, often narrow streets of towns such as Haamstede, Bruinisse and Renesse and of the historic city of Zierikzee mean you won’t have any trouble getting into the right mood. In addition to a small number of well-known shopping chains, you will mainly find small shops with their own, unique and surprising ranges of products.

The weekly market in Zierikzee is held all year ‘round on Thursdays. From May until September, you can also visit the market in Renesse on Wednesday mornings. Other cities have markets all year ‘round too: in Goes on Tuesday and Saturday and in Middelburg on Thursday.

Beaches

Schouwen-Duiveland is famous for its wide, quiet beaches with their imposing dunes.

However, the 21km long North Sea coastline is not just one, large beach: there are also a number of smaller beaches. The visible dune erosion clearly shows the continuous battle between water and dunes. At low tide, on the tide mark on the steps at Westenschouwen, it is possible to see the remains of the former village of Westenschouwen.

Beaches in the Netherlands that meet certain standards (water quality, clean beaches, etc.) annually receive a Blue Flag. Each year, Schouwen-Duiveland manages to obtain the much coveted Blue Flag for a number of its beaches.

A Grand Day Out!

If you would like a change from a day at the beach, then there are plenty of other things to do on and around Schouwen-Duiveland.

How about visiting Deltapark Neeltje Jans, for instance, at the Oosterschelde barrier. Here, the entire family can enjoy watching marine animals, take part in splash-tacular events and look at everything to do with the Delta Works. In the holiday season, there are also boat trips around the Oosterschelde.

At Recreation Farm Van Langeraad in Kerkwerve you can fish in the trout pond; success guaranteed. And with a bit of luck, you’ll even catch an eel. In the mean time, the kids can enjoy themselves with the narrow-gauge railway track.

Sports

The tourist information office (VVV) has a large choice of bicycle routes. Their latest asset is a bicycle interchange system, which you can use to put together your own bicycle route. If you wish, your route can take you back to your point of departure.

There is a 6km training route for mountain bikers, which runs through Boswachterij Westerschouwen. Thanks to its many asphalted bicycle paths, Schouwen-Duiveland is an excellent place for skeelering.

There are also plenty of routes for walkers, which vary from city walks through Zierikzee to the 42km-long Mondragónpad, where you follow in the footsteps of the Spanish general in the Eighty Years’ war. The nature reserves, which have been opened to the public by Staatsbosbeheer, also have a number of walking routes.
