About the location
Camping Scheldeoord is peacefully located right on the Westerschelde sea dyke, with the Schelde beach just behind it, in a green and quiet corner of Zeeland. At this beautiful spot on the dyke you are surrounded by polders, enjoy sweeping views and have an abundance of space all around you. Scheldeoord belongs to Baarland, about 2 kilometres away, a small village with around 600 inhabitants, beautiful old houses and farmhouses, a historic 'vaete' (a former cattle watering place) and the foundations of the medieval Hellenburg castle, which was destroyed by a storm surge in the 15th century.
Slot Baarland, another castle in the village, is privately owned and open to the public a few times a year. The other villages nearby are also small and pleasant, and well worth exploring on a cycling or walking tour. Goes, about 15 kilometres away, is the nearest town. A place where peace, polder landscape and Zeeland history come together.
